Polo St. Moritz

Finally Petrus cooperated with Polo sports and its fans.

The worst fears didn’t come true. The 17th Cartier Polo can take place on the lake of St. Moritz
Petrus who let the weather go crazy in the first two weeks of January had an understanding in the very last moment. He brought St. Moritz the icy cold weather of -25° everybody was yearning for.

Thanks to the cold weather the ice of the lake of St. Moritz is thick enough to be as usual the underlay of the Polo World Cup in the Engadin. This years event will take place in the proven settings with a slightly reduced infrastructure due to the last minute ice.

Again the St. Moritz Polo Club organises the spectacular happening that will proceed as planned although the warm weather impeded them to begin early with the constructions.

A second Argentine Open finalist will be part of the Polo World Cup!

Due to rearrangements in the team Bank Hofmann we will have the pleasure to welcome another real world class player in St. Moritz: Alejandro Diaz Alberdi, called “Piki”, an Argentinean with handicap 9. He can be considered one of the top-ten South American Polo cracks just like Milo Fernandez Araujo from team Mercedes-AMG.

Diaz Alberdi played 1997 and 1999 in the final of the Argentine Open which is a class of its own. In St. Moritz he isn’t an unknown either: He won the Cartier Polo World Cup on Snow three years in a row 1996, ’97 and ’98!

A second modification of the line-ups concerns the team Bank Hofmann. The Swiss team patron Markus Gräff had to replace Lucas Labat by his countryman Francisco Podesta (Hcp. 4); Podesta has never played on Snow before, knows Switzerland very well though. Since 1998 he is the trainer of Polo Park Zurich and has played with Markus Gräff in several summer-tournaments already.

Again an immense response from media from the whole world.

Two weeks before the event almost 100 journalists and photographers and 14 TV and radio stations have accredited with the official press office. They will travel to St. Moritz from 13 different countries.

In the year 2000 there were over 170 media representatives from 18 different countries present in St. Moritz.

More Polo and less fashion at the players presentation.

For this years players presentation on Friday night at the Chesa Veglia’s Club Privé the Polo Club St. Moritz has decided to put the main focus on Polo sports. Instead of the usual fashion show at 6:30 p.m. the participants will get to see films from the great world of Polo by Gianni Berry.
The fashion certainly won’t miss out on this party with about 200 invited guests!

17th Cartier Polo World Cup on Snow

Unfortunately Petrus is not a Polo player. It has always been an exciting question in the run-up of the Polo World Cup on Snow whether the lake of St. Moritz will freeze or whether it won’t freeze. Year after year Petrus had mercy upon the St. Moritz Polo Club that organises the whole event and […]

Aguerre will play for Chapaleufú

The 10 goals player will play the next season with the Chapaleufú jersey. Indios Chapaleufú was always one of the favourite teams. In the beginning of 2000 they’ve suffered a extrematelly painfull new, Gonzalo Heguy, their number 3 player, died in a car accident. This was shocking and reflected not only in the game but […]
