Anthony Pappa

His UK reputation took hold with guest slots all over the country and soon Renaissance was knocking on the door with a residency in hand.

When you mention the name Anthony Pappa; a DJing fairy story comes to mind. A native of Melbourne, Australia; Anthony began DJing at the tender age of 15. Influenced by Sasha, Digweed, and Graeme Park through their frequent visits Down Under, it was clear that Anthony was not going to be any regular DJ. Quickly his talents rose to the fore and his influences had changed into his biggest supporters. In 1994, He decided to enter the DMC World Mixing Championships in England. Anthony won and his prize was a mini DJ tour of the UK culminating with a slot at the Ministry of Sound. Anthony realized his future lay in England. Within a year, he was back for good working as an A&R for Stress, and a writer for Mixmag Update. His UK reputation took hold with guest slots all over the country and soon Renaissance was knocking on the door with a residency in hand. In the last three years Anthony has grown into one of the world’s finest DJ’s with sell out tours in Singapore, Hong Kong, Italy, Mexico, Costa Rica, and not surprisingly Australia, not to mention the hugely successful Renaissance America tour in the Summer of 1999. 1999 also sees Anthony behind the latest Renaissance Presents series as well as a much anticipated Platipus records compilation.

As a producer Anthony is definitely no slouch. He is the man behind Stress’ Freefall; who produced such masterpieces as Shrug and the massive vocal anthem Skydive. His remix work has included The Beloved’s Sun Rising, and his reworking of Chicane’s Offshore with Power Circle’s classic vocals. This legendary mix of the two tracks became a clubbing phenomena to such a degree that the label re-released the track with Anthony’s new mix. It reached number 4 in the UK pop charts.

Still at the tender age of 24, Anthony has achieved more than many. However, with Renaissance’s new UK venue open they have looked no further than Anthony to be the main resident and front man. With remix offers coming thick and fast as well as a sleuth of new original material it looks as if Anthony has more than a bright future ahead.
